MITCHELL, S.D. – After more than three weeks of practice, the Dakota Wesleyan University football team wraps up its spring session with its annual spring scrimmage this weekend.
The Tigers have four more days of practice this week, and will give the public a look at the 2012 squad Saturday, April 21. The scrimmage starts at 10 a.m. at the practice field on the DWU campus. It is free and open to the public, and everyone is invited to attend.
After wrapping up spring practice, DWU is hosting a fundraiser to help raise money for new equipment and game jerseys for the upcoming season. The football team is hosting the Tiger Football Dunk and 3-Point Contest at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 26 in the Christen Family Recreation/Wellness Center on the DWU campus.
Both contests are open to anyone who would like to enter, and the cost to enter is $100 per contest. Entrants are encouraged to ask local businesses to serve as sponsors and help with the entry fee, and the DWU football team would like to thank all local businesses that have already agreed to sponsor entry fees.
The dunk contest is open to the first 10 entries and the first 28 entries will be allowed into the three-point contest. First place for each contest wins $150 cash. Second place is an iPod shuffle.
The dunk and three-point contests are free and open to the public, and everyone is invited to attend and watch local athletes showcase their long-range shooting and dunking skills. There will be a raffle at the event for several prizes, including a TV, cash prizes and gift cards.
Anyone is invited to enter the dunk and three-point contests. Everyone participating in the contest should report to the Wellness Center at 6:30 p.m. the night of the event to go over contest rules. Registration forms can be found on the football portion of the DWU athletics website or by contacting Tiger head coach Ross Cimpl. Registration forms should be turned in by Tuesday, April 24.
