MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golf coach Adam Anderson put the finishing touches on the 2012-13 Tiger men’s golf roster this week when he announced the signing of Belle Fourche native Tyler Burr.
Burr is the third signee for the Tiger men this summer, and all three come from within South Dakota’s borders. He joins Hot Springs native Brady Besco and Winner native Anthony Husher.
Burr comes to Dakota Wesleyan after a successful prep career at Belle Fourche High School. He was a two-time conference champion and won one individual region title in high school. He qualified for the Class A state golf meet all six seasons on varsity, and finished in the top five twice.
Twice in his high school career Burr – who earned six varsity letters – was named to the all-tournament team, and he was a team captain for three years. He holds the Belle Fourche High School record for low round with a 67, and he was an academic achievement award winner in 2012.
“I am excited that Tyler decided to join our men’s golf program at Dakota Wesleyan,” Anderson said. “He has been a good golfer on the junior tournament circuit within South Dakota, and had several different universities competing to have him on their team.
“Tyler is a hard worker who gets a lot out of his game and always strives for improvement. I feel he is the kind of player who should be able to come in and compete for a spot on our varsity traveling team right away as a freshman.”
The Tiger men start the fall portion of their 2012-13 season Sept. 8-9 at a tournament hosted by Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The first Great Plains Athletic Conference qualifier of the year is Sept. 13 in Orange City, Iowa, and is hosted by Northwestern College.
