CRETE, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golf team finished third at the two-day Doane College Invite Tuesday afternoon in Crete, Neb.
The Tigers were in second Monday afternoon after the first day of competition, and slipped one spot to finish the two-round tournament in third. Dakota Wesleyan shot a 321 on the first day of competition and a 315 on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a 636. The Tigers finished three strokes behind Morningside College, which took second with a 633. Northwestern College won the tournament with a 611.
Individually, senior Travis Johnson paced DWU with a 157. He was tied for 16th after Monday and finished in a tie for ninth. He shot an 80 the first day and a 77 the second day. Tyler Burr, Austin Hieb and Mac Young all tied for 17th for Dakota Wesleyan with 160s. Burr and Hieb both carded a pair of 80s and Young finished with an 81 on the first day and a 79 on the second. Also for the Tigers, Josh Korn tied for 32nd with a 165 (86, 79).
The Tiger men are back in action Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21-22, at their annual DWU Palace City Classic. Friday’s round is at Lakeview Golf Course and Saturday will be played at Wild Oak Golf Club. The tournament is open to the public.
