MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s soccer team picked up its first two wins of the year last week, and sophomore Thara Ali Said played a large role in both wins.
The sophomore forward scored two goals against both Mount Marty College and Concordia University to help the Tigers go 2-0 on the week. For her performance, Ali Said has been named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Week, it was announced Tuesday afternoon by the league.
Tuesday against Mount Marty, Ali Said scored one goal in each half to help the Tigers pick up their first conference win of the year on the road. Dakota Wesleyan shut out Mount Marty 5-0.
Saturday afternoon, Ali Said helped the Tigers pick up another conference road win when she scored the first goal of the game and the eventual game-winner against Concordia in Seward, Neb. Her first goal came at the 27:44 mark and the second came with just over four minutes to play before halftime.
Ali Said is second on the team in scoring with four goals so far this season. She has 14 shots, including 11 on goal, and one game-winning goal.
Ali Said and the Tigers are back in action and back at home Wednesday, Oct. 3, when they host Briar Cliff University at 5:30 p.m. in a GPAC match at the Pepsi Cola Complex in Mitchell. Wednesday’s game is DWU’s annual Pack the Pitch game, and the Tigers (2-4, 2-1) are hoping to get more than 500 fans to come out to the game to try and set an attendance record.
