MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University men’s soccer player Hugo Gonzalez has been named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Week, it was announced Tuesday afternoon by the league.
Gonzalez, a senior forward from Fairfax, Minn., helped the Tigers go 2-0 in GPAC play last week with wins against Northwestern College and Doane College. Wednesday against Northwestern, he scored late in the first half to tie the game 1-1 and help the Tigers to an eventual 2-1 win over the Red Raiders.
Saturday at Doane, Gonzalez scored the first goal of the game five minutes in to put the Tigers up 1-0. Doane tied the game a few minutes later, but Dakota Wesleyan went on to win 2-1 in double overtime.
Gonzalez leads Dakota Wesleyan with eight goals and five assists this season. He has put up 74 shots, including 44 on goal. His eight goals puts him at eighth in the GPAC in total goals.
The Tigers open GPAC Postseason Tournament play Thursday, Nov. 1, when they travel to Hastings, Neb., to take on top-seeded Hastings College. This marks the third straight year the Tigers have made the league’s postseason tournament.
