YANKTON, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s cross country teams got one last meet in before the conference championships Saturday morning when they ran at the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton, S.D.
The meet was a final tune up for the Tigers before the Great Plains Athletic Conference championships, which are Saturday, Nov. 3, in Sioux City, Iowa.
Freshman Haley Brunke was the top finisher for the Tigers Saturday afternoon. She completed the race in 20:03.78 and finished 34th. Skylar Forgey finished 62nd in 20:40.35, Nicole Court-Menendez finished 121st in 22:34.83, Kayleen Gupman took 123rd in 22:36.32 and Heather Banister took 133rd in 23:49.58.
Dordt College won the women’s team title. Colorado College finished second and Concordia University was third. Concordia’s Sarah Kortze and Jena Schwalenberg took first and second, respectively, in the individual race.
Sophomore Trace Tjeerdsma was the top finisher for the DWU men. He completed the race in 28:03.77 and took 82nd. Andrew Hernandez finished 113th in 28:57.33, David Elliott was 122nd in 29:22.80, Jeff Sahli finished 126th in 29:32.11 and Mike Claar took 128th in 29:37.03.
Dickinson State won the men’s team title, Concordia was second and Morningside College finished third. Matt Fideler, who was competing unattached, won the men’s individual title in 25:25.7 and Dickinson’s Abdi Ismail was second in 25:46.89.
