MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University dropped a pair of games on a two-game North Dakota road trip over the weekend. The Tigers lost 3-0 to Jamestown College Saturday in Jamestown, N.D., before losing 3-1 to Valley City State University Sunday afternoon in Valley City, N.D.
Saturday, the Tigers lost 3-0 to Jamestown, which is receiving votes in the NAIA. The Jimmies won 25-20, 25-18 and 25-15. Dani Bird paced the Tigers with eight kills and Sarah Kruse finished with seven. Bri Jung had 23 assists and eight digs and Katie Lindow also had eight digs.
Sunday afternoon, Dakota Wesleyan hung close with Valley City in a game where none of the four sets where decided by more than four points. The Vikings won the first set 25-21 before Dakota Wesleyan won the second 25-23. It was the Vikings who came away with the 3-1 victory after taking sets three and four 25-23 and 25-22.
Bird had a game-high 14 kills to pace the Tigers. Sammy Fluck added nine kills and Kruse chipped in with eight. Jung had 31 assists and 10 digs and Lindow led the DWU defense with 14 digs. Stacie Brinker also had 10 digs and Bird finished with nine.
Dakota Wesleyan is now 4-16 overall and returns to Great Plains Athletic Conference play Tuesday, Oct. 2, when it travels to Sioux City, Iowa, to take on Briar Cliff University. The Tigers are back at home Friday, Oct. 5, when they host Jamestown at 7 p.m. at the Christen Family Recreation/Wellness Center on the DWU campus.
