Tiger volleyball falls to NWU, Midland

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team dropped a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference matches on a two-game weekend road trip to Nebraska on Friday and Saturday.

Friday night the Tigers lost 3-0 to Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Neb., and Saturday DWU fell 3-0 to Midland University in Fremont, Neb. The Tigers are now 5-23 overall and 1-10 in the conference.

Friday night, the Prairie Wolves (12-10, 6-4) won 25-22, 25-17 and 25-18. Rachel Tinklenberg led Dakota Wesleyan with 10 kills and Dani Bird and Sammy Fluck each finished with seven. Bri Jung had 28 assists and 12 digs, and Katie Lindow had a team-high 18 digs. Bird also had 12 digs and Maggie Stehly finished with 10.

Katelyn Walsh led all hitters with 11 kills for Nebraska Wesleyan and Karny Kuehl and Cody Long each added nine. Alex Springman had 26 assists and Mackenzie Hite led the team with 19 digs.

Saturday, the Warriors (18-8, 9-3) beat DWU 25-13, 25-17 and 25-23. Tinklenberg and Fluck each had 10 kills for Dakota Wesleyan and Sam Sandau finished with seven. Jung had 23 assists and Bird led the team with 15 digs. Lindow added 11 digs.

Ashley Wheeler led all hitters with 13 kills for Midland. Keri Lunz finished with 12 and Mackenzie Scheef added 10. Megan Farley had 33 assists and Wheeler also led the defense with 12 digs.

Dakota Wesleyan is back in action Tuesday, Oct. 23, when it travels to Sioux Center, Iowa, to take on Dordt College. The Tigers return home Saturday, Oct. 27, for a pair of games. DWU hosts Doane College at 2:30 p.m. and Presentation College at 5 p.m.
