Tigers fall to Jamestown in homecoming match

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team gave Jamestown College all it could handle, but the Tigers lost their homecoming match 3-1 Friday night at the Christen Family Recreation/Wellness Center in Mitchell.

The Tigers won a tightly contested first set 25-23, but dropped the next three. Jamestown, which is receiving votes in the latest NAIA coaches’ poll, dominated the next set and won 25-5. Dakota Wesleyan came back and played with the Jimmies in the next two sets, but Jamestown won the match with 25-18 and 25-20 wins in the third and fourth sets.

Sam Sandau had 12 kills to pace Dakota Wesleyan and Dani Bird added 11. Sammy Fluck finished with seven kills. Bri Jung had 37 assists and nine digs. Katie Lindow led the DWU defense with 13 digs and Bird added 11. Stacie Brinker also chipped in with nine digs.

Kaitlyn Rogalla led all hitters with 16 kills for Jamestown and Katie Zent and Alaina Brown each added 14. Kelsey Deragisch had 31 assists and Kaia Buck finished with 19. Katie Lee led the team with 19 digs and Brown chipped in with 13.

Dakota Wesleyan is now 4-18 overall and is back at home again Wednesday, Nov. 10, when it hosts Northwestern College at the Corn Palace.
