Tigers split a pair of GPAC games

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team split a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference games over the weekend. The Tigers beat Concordia University 3-1 Saturday afternoon before falling 3-0 to Hastings College Sunday afternoon. Both games were played at the Corn Palace.

Saturday, the Tigers (5-20, 1-7) won the first two sets against Concordia (8-13, 4-7) before the Bulldogs pulled away for a win in set three. Concordia led early in the fourth set, but Dakota Wesleyan held on for a close win. Game scores were 25-20, 25-16, 13-25, and 26-24.

Rachel Tinklenberg led all hitters with 17 kills for Dakota Wesleyan. Sammy Fluck added 13 and Dani Bird finished with 10. Bri Jung had 39 assists and Katie Lindow led the defense with 16 digs. Bird also had nine digs and Maggie Stehly finished with eight.

Kelsey Dinkel paced the Bulldogs with 11 kills and Amanda Kisker and Amanda Abbot each had 10. Jami Nekoliczak had 21 assists and Carli Smith finished with 19 digs.

Sunday afternoon, the Tigers hosted the Broncos – ranked No. 6 in the NAIA – and lost 3-0. Hastings won 25-14, 25-11 and 25-14. Tinklenberg had a team-high nine kills and Sam Sandau finished with four. Jung had 15 assists and Bird led the defense with four digs.

Shayna Schacher had a game-high 13 kills for Hastings (20-3, 10-0) and Kendra Schwein finished with 12. Haley Beardsley had 42 assists and Carissa Kinne had seven digs.

The Tigers are back at home Wednesday, Oct. 17, when they host Morningside College at the Christen Family Recreation/Wellness Center. The JV game is at 6 p.m. and varsity plays at 7:30 p.m.
