SILVIS, Ill. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2012-13 schedule Tuesday at the NAIA Midwest Invitational at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
The Tigers competed against 18 other teams from around the NAIA and finished in seventh at the two-day invite. Dakota Wesleyan was tied for sixth after Monday’s first round with a 308, and dropped a single spot Tuesday after shooting a 316 to finish with a two-day total of 624. DWU finished two strokes behind Huntington University, which took sixth with a 622.
Ashford University won the event with a 594, Mount Mercy University was second with a 596 and Marian University (Ind.) took third with a 597. Nebraska Wesleyan University was the only other Great Plains Athletic Conference school at the invite, and the Prairie Wolves took fifth with a 608.
Individually, Mac Young paced the Tigers with a 149, good for a tie for sixth. He shot a 75 Monday and a 74 Tuesday. Austin Hieb also finished in the top 25. He tied for 24th with a 154 after carding a 79 Monday and a 75 Tuesday. Senior Travis Johnson tied for 40th with a 158 (75, 83), Josh Korn tied for 55th with a 163 (79, 84) and Tyler Burr shot a 164 and tied for 59th (80, 84).
Marian’s Trey Pfund won the individual title with a 138. He shot a 69 on both days. Ashford’s Joar Bjelkholm took second with a 142 and Grand View University’s Mike Slavin finished third with a 147.
