MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University golf coach Adam Anderson announced his second recruit for the 2013-14 this week.
Michael Whitney will join the Tiger men’s golf program starting in the fall of 2013. The Brandon, S.D., native, is the DWU men’s second recruit so far this offseason. He joins Howard High School standout Cal Wiese, who signed earlier this fall.
Whitney was a three-time letter winner for the Lynx and he helped Brandon Valley High School to two Eastern South Dakota Conference titles. He helped Brandon Valley to a fourth-place finish at the Class AA state golf tournament this fall, and took 27th individually.
Whitney, who plans to major in sports management, had a 77 stroke average during the school year and a 73 during the summer. He won the Brandon South Dakota Golf Association tournament, and finished in the top five in several other summer tournaments.
“Michael exemplifies the type of student-athlete we want at DWU: passionate about improving, caring toward others and committed to success both on and off the golf course,” Anderson said. “He is a hard worker and loves the sport, which will suit him very well for collegiate golf.”
The Tiger men recently wrapped up the fall portion of their 2012-13 schedule. They head into the spring portion in sixth place in the Great Plains Athletic Conference team standings after two conference qualifiers.
