SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University cross country team wrapped up the 2012 season at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships Saturday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa.
Freshman Haley Brunke was the top finisher for the Tigers. She completed the race in 19:14.02 and took 36th. Skylar Forgey took 64th for the Dakota Wesleyan women. She finished the race in 20:09.81. Kayleen Gupman took 82nd in 21:38.08, Nicole Court-Menendez finished 84th in 21:40.71, Heather Banister finished in 22:35.13 and took 88th and Jamie Geho took 91st in 22:58.33.
As a team, the Tigers took 10th out of 11 teams. Dordt College won the girls’ team title after sweeping the third through eighth-place spots. Concordia University’s Sarah Kortze was the conference champion in 17:11.26.
Freshman Justin Brueggemann was the top finisher for the DWU men. He took 53rd in 27:06.01. Trace Tjeerdsma took 64th in 27:37.06; Andrew Hernandez finished 80th in 28:37.59; Jeff Sahli took 84th in 28:41.47; Michael Claar took 86th in 29:24.23 and David Elliott finished 87th in 29:30.16.
The Tiger men took 10th as a team. Concordia University won the GPAC team title and the Bulldogs’ Colin Morrissey was the individual champion in 25:08.65.
Dakota Wesleyan loses just two seniors to graduation in May in Elliott and Gupman. The Tiger men have five underclassmen on their roster and there are two juniors and three freshmen on the DWU women’s roster.
