YANKTON, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team picked up its second Great Plains Athletic Conference win of the year Thursday night when it swept Mount Marty College 3-0 in Yankton, S.D.
After a close first set that needed extra points, the Tigers settled in and were able to beat the Lancers – who swept Dakota Wesleyan earlier this season in Mitchell – in three sets. DWU won 26-24, 25-20 and 25-17. The Tigers are now 7-26 overall and 2-13 in the GPAC.
Elizabeth Mahsem had a game-high nine kills for the Tigers and Rachel Tinklenberg added eight. Dani Bird, Sammy Fluck and Sarah Kruse each finished with six kills. Bri Jung had 29 assists and seven digs and Maggie Stehly led the defense with 12 digs. Katie Lindow also added seven digs.
Amanda Dirksen led Mount Marty with six kills. Caitlyn Illg had eight assists and six digs and Bailey Kuchta, Dirksen and Kristi Tessmer each had five digs.
The Tigers end the regular season Saturday, Nov. 3, when they travel to Hastings, Neb., to take on No. 5 Hastings College.
