HASTINGS, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team ended its season with a 3-0 loss to Hastings College – which is ranked No. 5 in the NAIA – Saturday afternoon in Hastings, Neb.
The Broncos defeated the Tigers 25-13, 25-13 and 25-14. Dakota Wesleyan ends the 2012 season 7-27 overall and 2-13 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Tigers finished 10th in the league and missed a spot in the eight-team postseason tournament. Hastings won the league with a 16-0 conference record. The Broncos are 26-3 overall.
Saturday afternoon, sophomore Dani Bird led the Dakota Wesleyan offense with 11 kills. Sarah Kruse finished with four kills. The Tigers had 23 kills as a team. Bri Jung had 17 assists and Maggie Stehly paced the defense with 14 digs. Katie Lindow and Bird each added seven digs.
Kendra Schwein led all hitters with 12 kills for Hastings and Kirsten Nickel finished with seven. Haley Beardsley had 28 assists and Carissa Kinne finished with eight digs. Katie Zoucha had a team-high seven block assists and Jessica Osterhaus added six.
The Tigers lose just one senior off their 2012 roster in defensive specialist Kayla O’Connell. There were six juniors, three sophomores and 11 freshmen on this year’s roster.
