MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University offensive lineman Skyler Eriksen has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America College Division Second Team, it was announced Monday afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
This is the first academic All-American honor for Eriksen, who just completed his junior season with the Tiger football team. The Presho, S.D., native is an elementary education major with a 3.73 GPA. He is the second member of the DWU football team to earn academic honors from CoSIDA. Aaron Rolen also earned second-team honors following the 2011 season.
This season, Eriksen was part of an offensive line that helped the DWU offense throw for 2,397 yards and run for 1,251 more. The Tigers scored 234 points and amassed 3,648 yards of total offense. Eriksen played in nine of the Tigers’ 10 games and started in eight.
To be eligible for academic All-America consideration, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve for their team and maintain a cumulative GPAC of 3.3 They must also be a sophomore in academic and athletic standings.
