MITCHELL, S.D. – Abby Mettler, a former member of the Dakota Wesleyan University track and cross country teams, has been hired as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of South Dakota, it was announced by the university this week.
Mettler, a Wessington Springs, S.D., native, graduated from Dakota Wesleyan in 2011 with a degree in athletic training. While at Dakota Wesleyan, she ran cross country and was a member of the Tiger track and field team. She earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete status as a junior and senior, and recorded one of the ten best times in school history in the outdoor 5,000-meter run as well as the indoor 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs.
After graduating from Wesleyan, Mettler earned her master’s degree in athletic training from the University of Virginia in 2012. She has been employed by NovaCare Rehabilitation in Minneapolis since August.
