STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University track and field team recorded 13 top-10 finishes and set one record Saturday at the Buena Vista Invite in Storm Lake, Iowa.
The women’s 3,200-meter relay team set a school record at the meet. Nicole Court-Menendez, Skylar Forgey, Kayleen Gupman and Heather Banister ran the relay in 10:48.13, which broke the old record of 10:51.29 – set in 2005 – by more than two seconds. The relay squad took fifth in their race.
Kalli Quicke and Skylar Forgey also recorded top-five marks in DWU history Saturday. Quicke took fifth in the long jump and recorded the second-best jump in indoor school history with a leap of 16-feet-7 inches. Forgey finished 10th in the 1,000-meter run, and recorded the third-best time in school history in 3:22.08.
Senior Tamika Irvin was the Tigers’ top finisher. She recorded two top-five finishes in the 55- and 200-meter dashes. She took third in the 55 in 7.43 seconds and finished second in the 200 and set a meet record in 25.91 seconds. Teammate MaKenzie Hageman took fourth in the 55 and recorded the third-best time in school history in 7.45 seconds.
Also for the Dakota Wesleyan women, Jessie Pederson took seventh in the long jump and recorded the fifth-best mark in DWU history with a leap of 16-2. Teammate Abby Fossum took 13th with a mark of 14-5, and also took ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 32 feet. Jamie Geho took 10th in the 3,000-meter run and recorded the 10th-fastest time in school history in 12:48.1.
Dalton Smith paced the Tiger men individually with a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (23.38 seconds). Andrew Hernandez recorded a seventh-place finish in the 600-meter run. He finished the race in 1:29.45. The 1,600-meter relay squad of Tyler Volesky, Trace Tjeerdsma, Hernandez and Smith took seventh in 3:32.56. Jeff Sahli took ninth in the 3,000-meter run in 9:48.94 and Volesky finished ninth in the 200-meter dash in 23.49.
Dan Porter took ninth in the long jump with a leap of 19-1 and Tjeerdsma took 10th in the mile run in 4:49.44. Michael Stier took 12th in the weight throw and recorded the sixth-best toss in school history with a mark of 41-3.
The Tiger track team is back in Storm Lake Saturday, Feb. 2, when they compete in the Dennis Young Classic.
