MITCHELL, S.D. – Five new members will be inducted into the Dakota Wesleyan University Athletic Hall of Fame at the university’s 2013 spring banquet, it was announced this week. The banquet will be held in conjunction with the Senior Athlete Recognition banquet on Saturday, April 27.
This year’s class includes three athletes, one contributor and one individual who was both an athlete at Dakota Wesleyan and is now a major contributor. The inductees are: Heather Snavley Anderson (women’s golf, class of 2007), Don Blumenberg (athlete/contributor, class of 1957), Jeff Larson (football, class of 1989), Vladimir Micic (men’s track and field, class of 2002) and Roger Musick (contributor).
The banquet will be at the Sherman Center on the Dakota Wesleyan campus. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the banquet begins at 6 p.m. The senior athletes at Dakota Wesleyan will be recognized and several special awards will be handed out prior to the induction of the five new hall of fame members. The banquet is, for the most part, invitation only, but there may be some open seating available for the general public. For more information, contact the DWU athletic office at 605-995-2112.
Below is a list of this year’s DWU Athletic Hall of Fame class, along with a brief description of their athletic accolades and contributions to Dakota Wesleyan athletics.
2013 DWU Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees
Heather Snavely Anderson, a 2007 DWU graduate, was a four-year member of the Tiger women’s golf team during the start of its era of dominance. A four-time All-GPAC First Team performer, Anderson helped lead DWU to four straight GPAC championships and NAIA Region III titles. The Winner, S.D., native was named the region golfer of the year in 2006, and was the first women’s golf All-American in 2006 when she earned All-American Honorable Mention honors. She played on four teams that qualified for the national tournament, including the 2003-04 team that took 10th at the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships.
Don Blumenberg, a 1957 DWU graduate, is being honored as both an athlete and a contributor. He was a four-year letter winner for the Tiger men’s basketball program and the president of the “W” Club at DWU. Since graduating, he has been on the Board of Trustees for 12 years and has been an active member of the DWU TeamMaker booster club both as an organizer and recruiter.
Jeff Larson, a 1989 Dakota Wesleyan graduate, was a four-year starter at cornerback for the Tiger football team. He is tied for the school record for interceptions in a game (3) and a career (18), and held the record for interceptions in a season (8) for several years. He was a three-time all-conference performer, and helped DWU to a conference title in 1987. The Mitchell native was also a four-year starter at second base and shortstop for the DWU baseball team.
Vladimir Micic, a 2002 Dakota Wesleyan graduate and Yugoslavia native, still holds several records after a prolific track and field career at DWU. He is one of just a handful of athletes in DWU history with multiple All-American honors and finished in the top five three times at the national track and field championships. He also set SDIC and GPAC records in the 55-meter indoor hurdles. He still holds school records in the outdoor 110-meter hurdles in the indoor 55- and 60-meter hurdles.
Roger Musick is being recognized for his contributions to Dakota Wesleyan athletics over the years. The Mitchell native has been a Tiger fan since the 1960s, and has made been a member of the Dakota Wesleyan Board of Trustees for 12 years, including an eight-year stint as the board’s president.
