MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team added a name synonymous with sports in South Dakota to its 2013-14 roster this week when Kelsey Little signed with the program for the upcoming season.
Little comes to Dakota Wesleyan after a year at Northern State University. Her brothers Brooks and Dustin played basketball and football at the University of South Dakota and her sister, Brittany, played basketball at Mount Marty College.
Kelsey Little, a Castlewood, S.D., native, is a 5-foot-10 guard whole started for three years for the Warriors in high school. She averaged 15.2 points, 10 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.6 assists per game as a senior and helped Castlewood to a 17-3 record. She was a three-time all-conference selection and was selected to play in the 2012 South Dakota All-Star Games as well as the all-star three-point contest. Little – who will have sophomore eligibility at Dakota Wesleyan – helped the Warriors to the 2010 Class B state title.
Little also lettered in basketball, golf and track at Castlewood. She was a member of three school-record relay squads and one state-record relay, and was a two-time all-conference pick in volleyball. Little, who plans to major in sport, exercise and wellness at Dakota Wesleyan, was an academic all-state selection and was a member of the National Honor Society.
“Kelsey is an all-around good kid, and we’re excited to have her,” Tiger head coach Jason Christensen said. “We were actively recruiting her before she went to Northern. She was looking for a change, and we’re happy to have her here at DWU.”
Little is Christensen’s fifth signee for the 2013-14 school year. She joins Mitchell’s Kristin Sabers, Parkston’s Erica Herrold and McKenzie Weidenbach and Hanson High School’s Kendra Cheeseman.
