MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University football team has had no problems staying busy this fall camp.

Along with practices and meetings, the Tigers helped run a camp for the Mitchell Rec Center’s fifth- and sixth-grade football players this past weekend, and Dakota Wesleyan wraps up its fall camp with its annual scrimmage this coming Saturday.

On Aug. 17, the Tigers hosted more than 60 fifth- and sixth-grade athletes playing football through the Mitchell Rec Center at the practice field on the DWU campus. The DWU football players ran through position drills with the young athletes with stations for kicking, passing, running backs, offensive line and defensive backs, among others. During the camp, the youth coaches were watching the athletes, and after the camp the coaches picked their teams for the 2013 season.

Saturday, Aug. 24, the Tigers wrap up fall camp with their annual scrimmage. The scrimmage – which is open to the public – starts at 10 a.m. on the practice field on the south end of the DWU campus. Fans can get their first look at the 2013 DWU football team, and then everyone is invited to stick around for the post-scrimmage meal, hosted by the DWU TeamMakers.

The meal will start at around 11:30 a.m., and will be served at the practice field, and everyone is welcome to partake in the meal, mingle and meet this year’s football team. All family, friends and supporters of Dakota Wesleyan football are invited and encouraged to attend.

The Tigers open the 2013 season Saturday, Sept. 7, when they take on the University of Wisconsin-Stout – an NCAA Division III school – at 1 p.m. in Menominee, Wis.
