MITCHELL, S.D. – Two members of the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golf team earned All-Great Plains Athletic Conference accolades, it was announced by the league Friday morning.

Junior Travis Johnson was named to the All-GPAC First Team and sophomore Josh Korn earned honorable mention accolades. This marks the second straight All-GPAC for Johnson, a Lincoln, Neb., native, and the first all-conference honor for Korn, a Freeman, S.D., native.

Johnson finished tied for fifth in the overall conference standings this season with a four-round total of 308. He finished in a tie with Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Rory Doll. Johnson recorded a handful of top-10 finishes this season and helped the Tigers to five top-five finishes, including a second-place finish at the Hastings Invite on April 2.

Korn finished in a three-way tie for 20th in the final individual GPAC standings in his second year with the Tigers. He shot a four-round total of 320. He tied with Morningside College’s Matt Pitts and Concordia University’s Shawn Rodehorst.

Morningside’s Brandon Thompson won the individual conference race and was named the GPAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Year and Northwestern’s Aaron Aberson was named the league’s coach-of-the-year. Northwestern won the men’s team title and will represent the GPAC at the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships in Salem, Ore., May 22-25. Thompson also earned a berth to the national meet as an individual.

DWU, which finished sixth in the overall GPAC standings as a team, loses two golfers to graduation and returns a solid four, including its top five golfers from the end of the season. Korn and Johnson both return for the Tigers in 2012-13.
