The Dakota Wesleyan University Tiger Athlete of the Week is Mikaela Stofferahn, it was announced by the DWU athletic department Monday.
The Dell Rapids, S.D., native recently broke a 22-year-old record in the discus. Stofferahn notched a throw of 143-11 feet at the Concordia Twilight Meet on Friday in Seward, Neb. The record broke the mark set by Sara Ehresmann in 1996, which was 143-8. Stofferahn finished in ninth place with the throw. She also competed in the shot put, where she came in 13th with a throw of 41-1.
Her best finishes of the season came at the USD Twilight Meet on April 24. In the discus, Stofferahn came in third with a throw of 133-10 and took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 38-11.75.
Stofferahn will compete in the discus throw at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships from May 24-26 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
