DWU women’s basketball speaks to local elementary schools

MITCHELL, S.D. – A month after winning its first NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team visited local schools, Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary School to speak words of encouragement, and Longfellow Elementary School to referee a teacher vs. students basketball game.

On Friday, the DWU women's basketball team visited with students from first grade through fifth grade to speak words of encouragement and motivation. The class includes students ranging from ages six to age 12 and focuses on individual learners and allows them to learn and discover learning at their own pace.

Along with learning mathematics, science and social studies, the classes incorporate success skills that provide each student authentic opportunities to become a better overall person in the future.

DWU women's head basketball coach, Jason Christensen and a group of his players took a few hours out of their day to speak on their national title run, and what it takes to become successful individuals off the court as well.
