Wrestling concludes regular season at Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team concluded their Great Plains Athletic Conference dual schedule with a 39-9 loss to University of Jamestown Sunday in Jamestown, N.D.

 The dual began at 133-pound weight class, as Xylon Takata (Hilo, Hawaii) wrestled Joshua Garcia. After a high-scoring affair, it was Garcia who took the match 14-7 to give the Jimmies a 9-0 lead. Mitchell Messersmith (Lennox, S.D.) lost his match by fall at 149 pounds.

 DWU saw their first win of the dual at the 157-pound weight class, as Marcus Urban (Plankinton, S.D.) defeated Carsen Paynter 13-11 to cut the Jamestown lead to 21-3.

 Cole Halouska (Worthing, S.D.) also picked up a win at 165 pounds, winning a close 10-9 decision over Theodore Robison. At 174 pounds, Tanner Wernsman (Arapahoe, Neb.) picked up a 10-3 win over Thomas Ingraham to cap off three-straight match victories in the dual.

 The Tigers will wrestle at the GPAC Tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday in Orange City, Iowa.
