HASTINGS, Neb. — Dakota Wesleyan Baseball traveled down to Nebraska to take on the Hastings Broncos in a GPAC doubleheader.
The first contest saw the Broncos jump out to an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an energized offensive attack, setting the pace for the entirety of the contest. A seven-inning quality start from the opposing pitcher kept the DWU offense dormant, as the Tigers would only record one hit during the contest, coming from Talan Ball in the top of the second inning. On the mound, Broc Berry would record five strikeouts in four innings pitched, while Emmot Nathan tallied one of his own in two innings of relief, but it would not ultimately be able to slow down the Broncos. The contest ultimately ended in seven innings due to the run rule, with the final score tallied at 16-0 in favor of the Broncos.
Game number two saw the Tiger offense spring to life early, opening the game with three scored runs thanks to an RBI single from Dexter Payne and a two-RBI knock from Jackson Jarding that got Lane Darrow and Payne across home plate. The 3-0 lead was nearly matched with two runs from Hastings, but DWU was able to extend the lead in the top of the second thanks to a single from Caleb Meyers that would get Landon Ruesink to home, pushing the score to 4-2. The following three frames remained scoreless thanks to the combined efforts on the mound from Lucas Koepsell and Dakota Munger. Koepsell recorded two strikeouts against 20 faced batters, while Munger tossed four innings of relief to keep the Tigers in the lead through the middle portion of the contest. The Tigers broke the scoring drought with two runs in the top of the sixth as Joseph Tharaldson doubled to left field to bring two runs home, but the Broncos were quick to respond with four runs in the bottom of the frame, tying the game at 6-6. The bottom of the eighth saw Hastings claim its first lead of the contest, eventually extending the lead to 10-6, and while Payne would bring home Mason Riley on a sacrifice fly, the Tigers would not be able to get an offensive rally going, resulting in a 10-7 loss. The Tigers move to 11-11 on the season, and 2-4 in GPAC play.
DWU Baseball will be back in action down in Sioux City against Morningside on Tuesday, March 24th, at 2:00 PM. See the full 2026 schedule here.
