MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball senior Trae Bergh continues to add to his long list of accomplishments with another honor for his work on the court and in the classroom.
For the second straight season, Bergh has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, it was announced by the organization Thursday. Bergh is one of only two Tiger men's basketball players to ever receive the award and the only to be honored twice. Brady Wiebe made the list in 2010-11.
The CoSIDA All-District Teams are broken up into eight geographical regions honoring players from across the country at all levels of college basketball. To be nominated, an athlete must have a cumulative GPA above 3.3 and be a starter or significant contributor to the team's success.
The Crooks, S.D., native carries a near perfect GPA in his athletic training studies at DWU and has helped guide the Tigers to another successful season in 2015-16, as the team looks to return to the NAIA National Tournament.
Bergh is leading the Tigers in scoring with 22.2 points per game, scoring in double figures in all but two this season. He recently had a stretch of four straight games scoring at least 29 points in each contest. Earlier this season, Bergh became the 15th Tiger to reach 1,500-career points and set new school records for 3-pointers in a game (12) and in a career (314).
Bergh now moves on to the CoSIDA Academic All-American ballot, with the teams set to be announced later this month. He was named to the All-American team in 2014-15.
