MITCHELL, S.D. – For the second straight season, Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball star Trae Bergh has been named to a select group of student athletes that excel on the court and in the classroom.
Bergh, a native of Crooks, S.D., was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team for the second consecutive season, it was announced by the organization Monday. Bergh is the first DWU athlete in any sport to be named to the CoSIDA All-American First Team twice.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division basketball teams include student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. Players are nominated by their institutions sports information director and must have a 3.3 minimum cumulative GPA, sophomore status and at least one full year at their current institution. Five players from across the nation are voted on by the members of CoSIDA for each the first and second teams, making the award highly selective.
In the classroom, Bergh carries a near perfect GPA and has won numerous awards for his work as he heads towards graduation with a degree in athletic training.
Bergh has led DWU to another strong season in 2015-16, averaging 21.4 points per game, while hitting 40 percent of his 3-point shots. Bergh set new DWU men's basketball records for 3-pointers in a game (12) and career (318). He currently ranks ninth on DWU men's basketball's all-time scoring list with 1,777 career points.
