Four DWU men named to All-GPAC Team

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball concluded the Great Plains Athletic Conference season last week and four players received league honors Wednesday.

Senior guard Trae Bergh (Crooks, S.D.) and junior guard Tate Martin (Mitchell, S.D.) were named to the All-GPAC First Team for the first time, while senior forward Jade Miller (Mitchell, S.D.) picked up a Second Team nod. Senior forward Terrell Newton (Huron, S.D.) was named to the team as an Honorable Mention, it was announced by the GPAC Wednesday.

For Bergh, the honor is the third of his career and first on the First Team after picking up Second Team nods in his sophomore and junior seasons. Bergh is averaging a team-high 21.4 points and his hitting 47 percent of his field goals this season. He sits ninth on DWU's all-time scoring list with 1,777-career points.

Martin made the First Team for the first time after picking up an honorable mention as a freshman. Martin leads the NAIA in total assists (216) and assists per game (6.75). In 2015-16, Martin established himself as a true scoring threat, averaging 14.8 points per game, more than doubling his career average coming into the season.

Miller closed out his final GPAC season as a scoring machine, scoring 20 or more points in nine of his last 10 games. Miller boosted his average to 20 points per game with his late-season push. He also played a big role on the inside after coming off the bench his first three years as a Tiger. Miller averaged six rebounds and nearly one block per game.

After missing most of his junior season with an injury, Newton received his first All-GPAC honor. He is averaging 7.3 points per game, to go along with a team-high 6.3 rebounds.
