HASTINGS, Neb. — Dakota Wesleyan Men's Basketball faced the Hastings Broncos to kick of this season's conference slate of competition.
The Tigers opened the contest with the momentum, jumping out to a 17-11 lead to force a Hastings timeout about 10 minutes into the game. Steele Morgan led the offense for the second-straight game for Dakota Wesleyan with 22 points in an efficient 8-13 (61.5%) shooting performance from the field while contributing five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. His presence towards the basket opened up other Tigers for scoring opportunities, including 13 points from Randy Rosenquist Jr. alongside a team-leading nine rebounds, and Easton Neuendorf with 12 on a 5-7 (71.4%) clip from the field. The offensive effort gave the Tigers a 34-20 lead heading into halftime with DWU outshooting HC 46.4% to 25.8% In terms of ball control, the Tigers outrebounded the Broncos by the end of the contest, grabbing 37 boards to their 30.
The Broncos had a much more efficient attack in the second half, but the Tigers were able to match the offensive output to keep their lead for the rest of the contest. Anthony Riggans and Tyson Stevenson added to the offensive effort by combining for 16 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and three blocks to keep Dakota Wesleyan in control. Even with Hastings adding more points to the board in the back half of play, the Tigers increased their efficiency up to 52.4% in the half as they continued to take advantage of all possessions. The Tigers ended up cruising to a 68-55 win, putting up 34 points in both halves to move to 4-2 on the season and open up GPAC play with a win.
