TIGER MEN'S GOLF FACED TOUGH COMPETITION IN OKLAHOMA

Oklahoma City, Okla. – Dakota Wesleyan men's golf wrapped up play today at the U.C. Ferguson Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Okla., after day one was suspended midway through the second round due to lightning. Three rounds were originally scheduled to be played but was cut short due to the suspension of play on Monday with inclement weather.
 

How It Happened

Through the first day, Peyton Bettcher and Max Dailey led the Tiger golf team shooting seven over par. After day one, Bettcher was solid on the front nine, hitting par on seven of the nine holes before grabbing a bogey on the eighth hole. On the back nine, he was also strong, earning a pair of bridie shots and a trio of bogies. Bettchers' day two was strong through all 18-holes picking up four birdie shots and several bogey shots. Dailey followed suit to Bettcher, posting a strong; two days, picking up nine bogey shots and five birdie shots. After 36-holes, Dailey shot a 149 as him and Bettcher both tied for 66th place. Micah Dohrer finished the shortened tournament tied for 77th after shooting a combined four over par with 151. Dohrer shot a trio of birdies while picking up ten bogeys on day one.  Cody Cavanaugh held strong through both days, despite shooting 14 over as he tied for 88th place after 36 holes. Cavanaugh kicked the tournament off on day one, placing six bogies on his score card along with a pair of birdie shots. Payton Phares rebounded nicely on day two, climbing three spots as he found himself in a three-way tie for 93rd place after shooting a combined 17 over. Overall, Phares scored a strong day one, making par on half of the holes, then scribing bogeys on eight others. He had a solid second day, posting ten par shots, four bogey shots, and a pair of birdie shots.


Overall, the Tigers were up against tough competition on the course as the top five teams shot under 13 or better.

Tiger men's golf is back in action on Monday, September 12 and 13 as they head to Sioux City, Iowa, to compete in the Siouxland invitational at The Ridge Golf Course. The Siouxland Invitational is hosted by GPAC foes Dordt and Northwestern.
