MITCHELL, S.D. – On a cool and windy day from the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell short to conference opponent Midland University by a score of 4-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference action on Saturday in Mitchell, S.D.
Midland raced out to the initial lead to start the match with a goal in the fourth minute and held the 1-0 advantage early in the period.
A corner kick in the 16th minute by Ronaldo Acosta, along with an ensuing shot on goal by senior midfielder Grant Pierce looked to jump start the Dakota Wesleyan attack. However, the opportunity came up empty and the score sat in favor of the Warriors (7-8-0, 4-5-0 GPAC) 1-0.
MID, who finished with 10 shots in the first period, added a late goal before halftime and carried a two-goal lead into the locker room.
Out of the intermission, Midland added a pair of second-half goals in the 56th and 86th minutes, respectively taking the four-score advantage. Tigers (4-12-0, 3-6-0 GPAC) Rafael Calderon and Ruslan Rogers, who struck attempts on goal in the second period, tried to cut into the MID advantage, though, DWU was shutout by a score of 4-0.
The Blue and Gray registered eight shots in the match while junior goalkeeper Hunter Birozy tallied eight saves in the net.
