MITCHELL, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan Men's Soccer faced NCAA Division II South Dakota School of Mines in an out-of-conference contest at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.

The Tigers would start out going up and down either half of the pitch as the Hardrockers took time to figure out their pace. Dakota Wesleyan would get a good initial push, but South Dakota School of Mines defenders would be ready to snuff out any initial scoring threats from the home team. Zackary Stephens would be the goalie for the Tigers throughout the entirety of the contest, tallying three total saves. Even so, the Hardrockers would quickly find their offensive footing to put more pressure on the Tigers, eventually nailing the first goal of the game in the 26th minute. SD School of Mines would have a quick follow-up to their own goal, putting up a second one in the 32nd minute to jump out to a 2-0 lead over Dakota Wesleyan. The Hardrockers would take this lead into the locker room at halftime.

Dakota Wesleyan would be on the back foot early in the second half following their initial deficit as SD School of Mines would put up two more goals in the 49th and 51st minutes of the match to extend their lead to 4-0. The Tigers would mount many impressive scoring attempts, including a score late in the game from Lewis Cunningham, but the Rockers would keep the game out-of-reach for DWU. The Tigers continued to battle, with AJ Bowman and Maximilian Nolle putting up multiple shots, but a final goal late in the contest would seal the game in favor of South Dakota School of Mines, 5-1.

DWU Men's Soccer will be back in action at home against Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday, September 13th, at 5:00 PM. See the full 2025 schedule here.
