Strong Showing for DWU Men at GPAC Championships: Multiple Podium Finishes

Hastings, Neb. - The Dakota Wesleyan University men's track and field team closed out the 2025 GPAC Outdoor championships with a determined and spirited performance. The young team scored 11 points and placed several athletes on the podium.

Track Events: 

Sprints-

  • Barrett Nielsen (Jr.) entered the GPAC championships as number 8 on the leaderboard. He competed in the 110m and 400m hurdles. Nielsen stood on the podium in the 400m hurdles, placing 8th and hitting a PR of 56.11 seconds. Placing him as #6 in Tiger history. In the 110m hurdles, the junior ran a 15.90 second run and placed 13th overall. In the 400m hurdles.
  • Gage Hohn (Fr.) competed in the decathlon. He placed 4th, which allowed the freshman to stand on the podium. In the meet, he hit multiple PR's. In the 110 m hurdles, he hit a PR of 17.79 seconds. Shot put, 9.39m and 1.79m in high jump.

Relays-

The Tigers took part in the 4x100m and 400m relays.

  • The 4x100m team consisted of Trevor Sladky, Mikey Hart, Sean DeBlieck, and A'Johntez Moore ran for DWU. The young squad won their section by 20 seconds and posted a time of 43.08 seconds. The relay team is now #9 in Tiger outdoor history.
  • The 4x400m relay team included Ian Chrisler, Gage Hohn, Quenton Walls, and Bart Nielsen. Walls ran a split of 51.2 and Nielsen a split of 52.1. Splits that kept the Tigers in the race for their heat.

 

Field Events:

Jumps- 

  • Quenton Walls (So.) jumped in the long and triple jump at conference. In the long jump, Walls placed 14th in the event after jumping a 6.51m jump. Walls narrowly missed the finals in triple as he was squeezed out after the last two jumps in the final heat. He jumped a 13.47m jump.
  • A'Johntez Moore (Fr.) had a big day in the triple jump as he walked onto the podium, placing 6th overall. Moore hit a season and collegiate PR jump of 14.19m. He is now #5 in the outdoor top-ten list. Giving him a competitive and bright future in the GPAC.

Throws-

  • Max Raab (Jr.) competed in the javelin. Raab stood on the podium as he placed 4th in his event. Throwing a lifetime PR of 51.24m. His mark also places him as #5 in DWU's top-ten list for javelin.
  • Cole Holden (Jr.) also earned points for the men's Tigers as he placed 5th in the javelin event. Holden threw a 51.21m throw. A throw that put him right behind his fellow Tiger.
  • Ethan Watson (Fr.) took part in the shot put. The young freshman placed 9th in the conference with a throw of 15.01m.

Tigers Looking Ahead-

The Tigers aren't done yet, as a small, selected group of athletes will travel to Concordia University (NE) for a last-chance meet on Friday, May 9, hoping to hit qualifying standards for nationals and keep building on their momentum.

The DWU men's track and field team ends the GPAC championships on a high note, with multiple athletes finding the podium, setting personal and season bests, and laying the foundation for a strong future. With momentum on their side, the Tigers are poised for continued growth and success.
