SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's cross-country team clocked several strong performances at the Briar Cliff Invitational on Saturday as both squads appeared to be in mid-season form. The men's team came away with a 10th-place finish while the women's squad notched a ninth-place finish.
On the women's side, freshman Tessa Kilber (Ipswich, S.D.) continued her strong season as she finished the 5k race in 19:21.56 minutes. The performance was not only good enough for a 40th-place finish, but also moves her into fourth all-time on the Dakota Wesleyan University women's cross-country top-10 list. Also joining the list, was Annika Vermeulen (Mitchell, S.D.) who is now 10th all-time after crossing the line in 20:25.11.
Just behind Vermeulen, was fellow Tiger Morgan Oedekoven (Pierre, S.D.) finishing with a time of 20:34.99. Rounding out the DWU score, was Delanie Larson (Gettysburg, S.D.) and Macey Bohl (Garretson, S.D), who finished in 92nd and 114th, respectively. The Tigers finished ninth out of 13 teams with an average time of 20.38.80.
Meanwhile, the DWU men's squad secured a 10th-place finish with an average time of 27:57.65. The sophomore duo of Wyatt Baldauf (Seneca, Ill.) and Justin Sorensen (Vermillion, S.D.) led the way finishing with times of 27:19.13 and 27:30.80, respectively.
Also adding to the score was Devin Rihanek (Plankinton, S.D.) as he came in 97tth place crossing the finish line with a time of 28:04.00. Fellow Tigers, Layne Lewis (Plankinton, S.D.) and Hunter Shanks (Bennington, Neb.) also completed the 8k race for DWU. Lewis crossed the finish line in 112th place while Shanks rounded out the scoring with a time of 28:31.76.
Both squads will toe the line once again at the Seminole Valley Stampede on Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The women's race will begin at 10:30 a.m. while the men's race is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m.
