SEWARD, Neb. — No. 14 Dakota Wesleyan Women's Basketball traveled south to take on the ninth-ranked Concordia Bulldogs in a matchup atop the GPAC standings.
The Tigers and Bulldogs opened the contest trading baskets, with DWU finding the early advantage, leading 12-10 after the first period. Dakota Wesleyan was led on the boards by Avery Broughton, who posted a career-high 16 rebounds, with 14 being recorded on the defensive end, and was one of three Tigers to record a double-double in the contest. Emma Yost led the team in scoring with 19 points and recorded 10 rebounds, while Shalayne Nagel added 10 points and 10 rebounds of her own. The three double-digit scorers helped push DWU through a tough contest that saw both defenses rise to the occasion. Nagel recorded two blocks in the first 10 minutes of the contest alongside snagging three steals, and would be matched by Taliyah Hayes off the bench with two blocks of her own, and added six points, five rebounds, and two steals to her final statline. DWU held CUNE to just 27.7% shooting from the field and outrebounded the Bulldogs 57-36, ultimately giving the Tigers more consistent possessions to work with, which helped them stay a step ahead of Concordia down the stretch. The Tigers would take a 25-20 lead into the halftime break.
The Dakota Wesleyan offense started hot with Yost posting 11 of her 19 points in the third period. Concordia also picked up its offensive pace, with 18 third-period points, but the Tigers were able to keep them a couple possessions out of reach for a while longer, holding a 46-38 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Rylee Rosenquist added four of her seven total points to the board in the fourth period while leading the team with four assists, and Jaida Young rounded out the starting rotation with six rebounds, two points, and two assists to add to the effort. The Bulldogs had a final surge in the final few minutes of the contest, shortening the DWU lead to 56-53 following back-to-back three-point shots and a Tiger foul, and while Dakota Wesleyan landed free throws down the stretch, CUNE was able to shorten the score to 58-56 in the final seconds of the contest. A final free throw from Broughton pushed the lead back out to three points, and the final shot attempt from Concordia would fall short of scoring, giving DWU a 59-56 win over a top-10 opponent.
DWU Women's Basketball will be back in action against the Dordt Defenders on the road on Wednesday, December 10th, at 6:00 PM. See the full 2025-26 schedule here.
