Weidler propels Tigers over (RV) Jamestown

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team didn't have an easy task at hand on Sunday, however Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) scored on two break-away shots to push the Tigers over the University of Jamestown 2-1 at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.

It was a tough first half as both teams tried to counter attack one another, but both defenses held strong, including freshman goalie Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) who recorded nine saves in just her sixth game in a Tiger uniform.

The second half was a different story for both teams. Weidler dribbled down the entire field and laced a perfect shot into the net in the 59th minute on an assist by Alexandria Jacobs (Niles, Calif.) Less than four minutes later, Weidler found an opening through the JU defense and tacked on an insurance goal for the Tigers. The Jimmies didn't go down without a fight as shots became a premium in the latter portion of the game. Jamestown ultimately found the net in the 79th minute, but the DWU defense held strong to secure the victory.

JU outshot the Tigers 14-6 and had eight corner kicks, compared to one from DWU.

Jocelyn Behm (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Jacobs added a shot on goal in the contest.

The Tigers (4-2) open conference play against Concordia University at 4 p.m. Saturday in Mitchell.
