MITCHELL, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan Women's Soccer faced Mount Marty for the team's senior night celebration.
The contest was a defensive battle from the first whistle, with both backlines scrapping for position early on. In the goal, the Tigers were led by Abigail Colgrove, who recorded three saves on four shots-on-goal in 81 minutes, while senior Bailey Lester would record a save of her own in the waning minutes of the contest. Molly Colgrove and Meghan Hutchison led the backline, with both athletes playing a full 90 minutes in what would be a scoreless game through the first half. Mount Marty would have multiple opportunities at scoring, but quick reactions and reinforcement from the defensive unit would keep the Lancers at bay. Mount Marty's defense would be just as efficient, with their goalkeeper totalling nine saves on nine shots-on-goal, but the Tigers would continue to push the pace when they were able to find slight creases in the opposition. Even so, the defensive emphasis on the game would take both teams into halftime tied at 0-0.
Action would pick up in the second half, and while it would not be on the scoreboard, both offenses would see the match open up. Mount Marty would land the first and only goal of the game in the 64th minute off a pinpoint corner kick that would put Dakota Wesleyan at a 1-0 deficit. Hannah Petrucci would lead the offensive counterattack with six total shots, but would not be able to connect on any of her attempts. Annika Enevoldsen would also rattle off four shots, with her and Petrucci both having optimal opportunities towards the end of the contest, but impressive defensive rallies from the Lancers would snuff out any scoring efforts late in the game, leading to a 1-0 Mount Marty win. Five separate Tigers would register shots on the goal by the end of the match.
The Tigers will be back in action against Dordt on Wednesday, September 24th, at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex. See the full 2025 schedule here.
