Women's Track Wraps Up Regular Season at Grand View Viking Classic

Des Moines, Iowa - The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers traveled to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in their final regular season meet, Grand View Viking Classic, at Grand View University. 

Track Events: 

Sprints-

  • Tanley Goebel (Jr.) competed in the 200m and 400m opens. In the 400m dash Goebel placed 4th overall and ran a strong time of 1:05. In the 200m, Goebel ran a 28.24 that placed her in 8th overall at the meet. 

  • Ashlyn Maldonado (Fr.) ran in her first 100m race. The young freshman ran a 15.90 second run, and looks to learn and grow in the sport in the near future.

Field Events:

Jumps- 

  • Dani Deffenbaugh (So.) competed in the long jump. Deffenbaugh's best jump of the day was 4.64m. She placed 7th in the meet. 

  • Tiegan Meyer (So.) competed in the high jump. She cleared the height of 1.36m. She placed 9th. 

  • Elizabeth Heinen (Fr.) won in the high jump event. She jumped a 1.51 height clearance. Finding more consistency as she cleared the height in her first attempt. She now looks to take that consistency to her next height attempt that she is closing in on. 

  • Ava Ludwig (Fr.) jumped in the long and triple jump. She PR'd in long jump breaking into the 5 meters with a 5.00m jump that allowed her to place 3rd overall in the event. 

Throws-

  • Abby Magnuson (Grad.) competed in the discus and shot put. In the shot Magnuson threw a 13.6m th6row. Allowing her to place 1st overall in the meet and hit B-standard once again. In discus, Magnuson hit the B-Standard for nationals for another year in a row. Throwing the distance of 44.51m and won the meet in both her respective events.

  • Samantha Kludt (Jr.) competed in the discus and hammer. In discus her best throw of the day was 28.81m. In Hammer Kludts best throw was a 4.700m.

  • Dani Deffenbaugh (So.) threw well in the javelin event where she was able to PR. She placed 3rd overall and threw a 32.10m mark, which is five meters above her previous PR.

Tigers Looking Ahead-

The Grand View Viking Classic wraps up the regular season for the DWU track and field tigers. They now wait to hear who qualifies for conference with their hard earned marks. For those who qualify they will head to Hastings, Nebraska to compete at the GPAC Outdoor Championships. More info will be provided on the meet preview and on the DWU app.
