COLBY, Kan. — Dakota Wesleyan Women's Wrestling competed in the Dust Bowl Open hosted by Colby Community College of the NJCAA.
Tiara Faehnrich led the Tigers with three wins on the day. The true freshman from Hill City, South Dakota lost her initial match in the 138-pound group, but rattled off three-straight pinfalls to sift through the back side of the bracket in times of 0:44, 0:54, and 4:20. She would fall in her final contest of the day, but the effort gave Faehnrich a 3-2 record on the day. Olivia Smith placed for the Tigers at 160 pounds following her first-round win with a 4:45 pinfall against Zolie Kurena of Murray State College. She would lose her next two matches via 11-6 decision and a fall, but a deferred contest in the placing match earned Smith fifth place in the bracket, putting points on the board for Dakota Wesleyan in the team score.
Kaitlin Gay was the team's last competitor at the 207-pound weight class, with her sole win coming via a forfeit victory. She would fall in her final match in an extremely close 3-2 loss to Natalie Espinoza of Schreiner University. The Tigers finished 10th out of 13 total organized teams.
