YORK, Neb. — Dakota Wesleyan Women's Wrestling competed at the York Open down in Nebraska in the team's first event of the new calendar year.

The Tigers were led by Cerys Gardner, who continues to have a notable freshman season, and was able to place sixth in the 110-pound weight class. Her victory came in the first round with a 58-second pinfall against Edyn Hartman of Waldorf. While Olivia Smith did not place at 160, she grabbed two dominant wins in her second and third matches of the day, which included a 1:06 pinfall against Baker University's Elizabeth Cope and a 1:04 pinfall against Alondra Guzman-Tarango of Friends University. Tiara Faehnrich competed in two matches at the 138-pound weight class, and Jayden Lange represented Dakota Wesleyan at 145. Both wrestlers fell in their bouts, but showed good effort as they prepare for the back end of the team's schedule. Kaitlin Gay rounded out Dakota Wesleyan's lineup at the York Open at the 207-pound weight class and competed in two matches before the conclusion of the meet.

DWU Women's Wrestling will be back in action against Buena Vista and Morningside at the CFAC on Tuesday, January 20th, starting at 6:00 PM. It will be the team's lone home event of the season, and they will be celebrating Family Day in between DWU duals. See the full 2025-26 schedule here.
