DWU volleyball drops contest to Briar Cliff

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team hit the road to take on Great Plains Athletic Conference foe, Briar Cliff University and lost 3-1 Tuesday in Sioux City, Iowa.

 Set scores were 17-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-20.

 The Tigers (10-3, 0-2 GPAC) took an early lead as Madison Smith (Watertown, S.D.) notched a kill to take a 6-3 lead. However, the Chargers (7-3, 1-1 GPAC) would go on and take the first and second set.

 It was all DWU midway through the third set as Syndey Fritz (Winner, S.D.) notched a kill to put the Tigers up 19-16, as they went on to win the third set.

 The Chargers would prevail in the fourth set, however, as they downed the Tigers, 20-25.

 Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) led the way with 19 kills and 13 digs, while Sara Herman (Reliance, S.D.) tallied 19 digs and Mallory Cooper (Orchard, Neb.) notched 10 digs. Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) recorded 22 assists and three digs, as Fritz added seven kills.

 The Tigers take on Mount Marty College in a GPAC showdown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Corn Palace.
