CRETE, Neb. — RV Dakota Wesleyan Volleyball faced the Doane Tigers in a GPAC contest on Friday evening.
Dakota Wesleyan jumped out to a 9-3 lead on Doane with an early surge on offense from Emily Dale, who tabbed nine kills and five blocks at the net through three sets, alongside an impressive .429 hitting percentage. Madisyn Grimsrud also contributed at the net tallying five blocks alongside Dale. Doane strung together points in the middle of the set, but the continued swings back in favor of DWU would carry the Tigers to a set-one win by a score of 25-21. Karly VanDerWerff was an early offensive contributor with nine kills to her name and five blocks to get Dakota Wesleyan through the set. The second set saw more back and forth from both teams initially, but the added efforts of Lily Ranschau and Evy Knoblock got DWU back in control towards the end of the set. Ranschau recorded seven kills, and Knoblock led the team with 10 in total. Dakota Wesleyan claimed set two by a slimmer margin of 25-23.
Kayleigh Hybertson led the team in assists as the setter, tallying 31 in three sets alongside eight digs to keep DWU in control of the match as they extended their 2-0 lead. Four Tigers recorded double-digit digs on the day in a well-rounded defensive effort, with Elizabeth Tyler leading the way with 16 in total. Carlee Laubach and Abigail Zegar followed closely behind with 15 and 14 digs, respectively. The group helped carry DWU to another quick lead in the third frame. Doane once again fought back to tie up the score at 11-11 in the middle of the set with both teams trading blows, but the final stretch saw Dakota Wesleyan close out the contest 25-21 in a three-set sweep.
